JPEG XL offers excellent quality at small file sizes and can re-encode existing JPEGs without any further quality change, but lacks widespread browser support. Converting to JPEG makes the image openable in virtually every browser, app, and device. Because JPEG can't store transparency, any transparent areas are filled with a solid colour (white by default).

Will converting to JPEG reduce quality?
JPEG uses light compression that makes a small change to pixel values. At the default quality setting the difference is usually invisible, but it is not pixel-for-pixel identical to the original. You can raise the quality slider to reduce the change, at the cost of a larger file.
Will I lose the transparent background?
Yes. JPEG has no support for transparency. Any transparent areas in your JPEG XL image will be filled with a solid colour (white by default) during conversion.
Also consider: If file size matters, consider AVIF (works in all current browsers) or JPEG XL (lacks widespread support) — both achieve noticeably smaller files at the same quality.
