JPEG XL offers excellent quality at small file sizes and can re-encode existing JPEGs without any further quality change, but lacks widespread browser support. Converting to AVIF makes the image openable in all current browsers (Chrome, Firefox, and Safari).

Will converting to AVIF reduce quality?
AVIF uses light compression that makes a small change to pixel values. At the default quality setting the difference is usually invisible, but it is not pixel-for-pixel identical to the original. You can raise the quality slider to reduce the change, at the cost of a larger file.
