About this conversion
JPEG is the most widely supported photo format — every browser, app, and device can open it, at the cost of some compression visible at low quality settings.
Common questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
Will converting to WebP reduce quality?
WebP uses light compression that makes a small change to pixel values. At the default quality setting the difference is usually invisible, but it is not pixel-for-pixel identical to the original. You can raise the quality slider to reduce the change, at the cost of a larger file.
Does WebP support transparent backgrounds?
Yes — WebP supports transparency — but JPEG does not, so there is no transparent data to carry over. The output will have a solid background.
Also consider: For even smaller files, AVIF compresses further than WebP and works in all current browsers — encoding is slower, but the quality-to-size ratio is better.
