Will converting to PNG reduce quality?
No. PNG keeps every pixel exactly as it was — there is no quality loss from the conversion itself. Any quality reduction that already existed in the JPEG source will remain, but the conversion adds nothing further.
Does PNG support transparent backgrounds?
Yes — PNG supports transparency — but JPEG does not, so there is no transparent data to carry over. The output will have a solid background.
